Meeting Minutes

December 7, 2005

 

Presentation:  This month Bruce Gerhard presented the start of his program on solar observation.  In this first installment Bruce talked about the nature of light and how the vast majority of the information about the sun and stars comes from the analysis of the electromagnetic spectrum emitted by the object.  Bruce reviewed the many theories and discoveries which have added to the understanding of the sun and stars.  Bruce will continue at a future date with this topic.

 

Business Meeting:

  1. The first order of the business meeting was elections of the 2006 club officers.  The results are:

                        President – Paul Grueter

                        Vice President – Louis Gentile

                        Treasurer – Chuck McCarthy

                        Secretary – Bill Luzader

  1. A special thanks to Andy Anderson for his service this year as club president. 
  2. Andy talked about the logistics of getting membership packets out now that he will not be at meetings.  He will work on that and we will discuss it at the next board meeting.
  3. Changes in the calendar were discussed.  Next month’s meeting (January) will take place at the Council on Aging and Steve LeFlamme will present a discussion on the “Tenth Planet” and the new Meade Astro cam.
  4. Spencer Howe brought up the old topic of the survey that was conducted a few years ago.  This topic will be brought up at the next board meeting.
