OLD BUSINESS

 

1. Election of Officers

            President – Paul Grueter

            Vice-President – Louis Gentile

            Treasurer – Chuck McCarthy

            Secretary – Bill Luzader

            Directors – Rolf Egon, Mal MacDonald & Steve Zulon

            No other nominations – slate elected by acclamation

 

2. Corporation Notice – Tenney Doble called the Secretary of State (MA) office that we will remain in “bad standing with the state” – will be discussed at board meeting

 

3. Upcoming Events for 2009

            a. International Year of Astronomy 2009

            100 hours of Astronomy April 2-5, 2009

            b. Astronomy Day - May 2, 2009

            c. STEP Foundation may have an “event” at PCIS on May 1 or 8 afternoon

 

4. Dues are now due

            a. $35.00 (Includes membership in Astronomical League and subscription)

            b. Sky & Tel subscription $33.00

            c. Astronomy subscription $34.00

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

1. Viewing Dates – Dec 20, 27 & Jan 3 (2009) at Centennial Park

2. Annual Board meeting – Jan 24, 2009 – Time & Place TBD

3. Amy Nelson from Miles Standish about an astronomy festival at Wompatuck State Park in the early spring

4. Get more information from the Astronomical League about awards for observing double stars, Messier objects

5. Spencer Howe is doing the spring 3 hour course at Feb 21, 28 & Mar 7 with observing on any clear evening old coast guard station in Marshfield now housing the Recreation Department

6. Steve Zulon has made a connection with Whitman Library about a presentation sometime in the spring

3. History Channel Universe program about sex in space

5. PBS Nova program about Hugh Everett, physicist who first proposed the Many World’s interpretation of quantum mechanics

6. The bag floating from Shuttle & ISS discussion – how could it be visible? Why could they not retrieve it
