2. Abington Public Library, Tuesday evening July 20th CANCELLED

3. Children’s Program, Winslow House (Marshfield), Friday 10 am – Noon Aug. 6th

4. Stellafane, Springfield, VT Aug. 5 – 8, 2010 (Thu-Sun) Archive of photos from Russell Porter’s days at website. Group from SSAS is going with the intent to camp!

5. PCIS Observatory meeting at PCIS at 9 am Saturday July 10

 

NEW BUSINESS

1.      Suggested Viewing Nights, Saturdays July 10 & 31 at Centennial Park

2.      Do we need to discuss special viewing programs – regular observing Saturday was more for members than for the public – more discussions will ensue …

3.      Jeff Lane is the official club weather prognosticator for observing sessions

4.      meteor showers: good Moon phase for the Perseids August 12-13

5.      Rolf Egon is being treated for Prostrate cancer

a.      Club can buy the 2011 Astronomy magazine astronomy calendar for half price ($12.95)

b.      Insurance is paid  $250.00

c.      Astronomical League membership is paid $140

7.      Jeff Lane asks if anyone is using green laser for pointing at stars for groups – Jeff has followed the rules about using them – contacting the FAA. Jeff has concerns about the “official” rules (using green laser pointers within 5 miles of the end of & 2 miles on the sides of airport runway). Are there specific government regulations about lasers pointing into the sky and the possible legal problems involved if an amateur astronomer uses one improperly. Paul will contact Astronomical League about laser pointers.
