  1. International Year of Astronomy - Plymouth Public Schools – Bill Luzader

      100 hours of Astronomy April 2nd (rain date 3rd) at South Elementary School; Plymouth Library Presentation – April 6, Blake Planetarium; Plymouth Waterfront – Aug. 2009

  1. Astronomy Day – May 2, 2009 from 2 – 5 pm inside and evening outside at the Hanover Public Library, Louis Gentile & Bill Luzader; discuss more at April club meeting and during April vacation; Contact Gerry Dyck about astronomy music – director with New Bedford Choral Society and AAVSO web site
  2. Whitman Library Viewing currently hoping for telescope observing in June - Steve Zulon
  3. Public Viewing canceled on Feb 27 at Wompatuck Park – To be rescheduled - Paul Grueter
  4. Weymouth School astronomy club apparently does not exist
  5. Astronomical League Certificate: Two sets of Double Star Cards from the AL edited and drawn by Mal MacDonald and printed by Paul Grueter available at the members’ page of the SSAS web site
  6. Astronomical League Certificate: Messier Marathon charts (including Caldwell objects) from the Royal Astronomical Society Website by Mal MacDonald (still wanting to add some other options) with links available at the members’ page of the SSAS web site
  7. Astronomical League Certificate: Outreach Club, Paul Grueter will send out official sheet to record information
  8. Telescope Donation suggested by Paul Grueter – donate 6-inch Orion Dobsonian telescope to the Cushing School in Hanover, donated on Astronomy Day at the Library

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

  1. Viewing Dates – Saturday Mar. 21 & 29 (Messier “Half” Marathon) at Centennial Park, good crowd observing at Centennial Park on Saturday Feb 21 (deepsky.com – not free but good – has images)
  2. SSAS Bulletin Board reinstated - apply for password through Paul Grueter so it will not get any extraneous stuff – anybody can view it but only registered users can post on it
  3. Comet Lulin has not been good (not good with 25 inch telescope at the Clay Center)
  4. Public viewing evenings at the Clay Science Center in Brookline (linked at the SSAS website) starting in April on Tuesday – clear or cloudy (PR)
  5. Thursday Aug 13 (before Stellfane) an Astronomy History day at the Hartness House in Springfield, VT
  6. AstroAssembly at Skyscrapers in North Scituate, RI (website linked at SSAS site)

  1. Space Shuttle launch on March 12 at 8:54 pm, should be seen pulsing thrusters low across SE sky
