Meeting Minutes
November 3, 2004
What a way to start out our
November Meeting. Bill Luzader, aka Sir Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein and a
little Jack Horkheimer, reincarnated, gave us his
first installment, concerning trajectories of orbiting objects and how to
compute the distances to the various planets, using relatively simple math.
Some of us, I hope I wasn't alone, were scratching their heads, but many others
really got into the discussion. Actually, giving some of us lesser mortals,
hope in our capabilities. All in all, an enjoyable and
educational presentation. Well done, Bill.
Next we turned our attention
to one of this month’s more important annual topics; the nominations of Officers
and Directors for the upcoming year. As happened last year, people were
nominated, but with no opposition. Therefore, once again we forgo the election
process, next month and all the nominee's are
automatically elected. Congratulations to the following: Richard (Andy)
Anderson-President, Louis Gentile-Vice President, Charles (Chuck)
McCarthy-Treasurer, Paul Grueter-Secretary/Webmaster and to the three
Directors; Bill Luzader, Tenney Doble and Rolf Egon.
A special thanks to Tenney,
for his years of service as our supreme leader. Luckily, we were able to keep
him involved, filling one of the Directors positions; where his experience and
input, will be appreciated.
Finally we turned to
discussions about the upcoming "Leonids", which I unfortunately
stated as being on the 13th of November. The duration period is actually from
the 13th-20th of November, with the peak at 2:30 a.m. on the 17th. We also
discussed the revived newsletter, by Andy and his problems with getting it out
to everyone. The solution is to have Paul place it on the web page, where
everyone, as well as guest, can access it. Problem solved! It was also brought
up, to do our meteor viewing from Myles Standish, as it is darker; this option
is still outstanding, but unless notified otherwise, the viewing will be at our
normal viewing site, at Centennial Field, weather permitting, we may have a
late night viewing session on the 13th and maybe take in the beginnings of the
"Leonids and for those diehard soles, showing up after midnight on the
16th, early morning on the 17th, to view the "Leonids, at their peak.
At this point, the meeting
business had been concluded and some people broke up into groups, to chit chat
and others started to leave. One again,
thanks are due to Skip, for the coffee and brownies. Another fun and
informative gathering comes to close. Till next time; "KEEP LOOKING
UP."
