Meeting Minutes

October 5, 2005

Business Meeting:

1.     Andy read an e-mail from Image Tech in Canada.  This company offers publishing services for Astro-photography.  They will give a commission to any person’s pictures that are published.  If you want more information see Andy.

2.     Andy has sent out information to the media about “Mars Watch”.  We will observe on Saturday September 29th at Centennial Field.  This is the date when Mars will appear as large as it will until 2018.  We are hoping the many from public will join us for this event.

3.     At our next meeting, November 2nd our guest speaker will be J. Kelly Beatty, executive editor of Sky & Telescope magazine and editor of Night Sky magazine.  Rolf has set up this exceptional speaker.  It was agreed that refreshments will be served at this meeting.

4.     It was voted that the club will not make a donation to the hurricane victims because many members have already made donations through organizations of their choice.

5.     Louis reported on the recent birthday party where the club provided scopes for the participants.  The club received a $250 donation for our efforts.

6.     Paul reported on the recent STEP Foundation Board meeting.  It appears that the observatory is well on the way to being built.  The foundation is just waiting for approval of the Plymouth School Committee.

7.     Bruce reported on this year’s Astro-Assembly held by Sky Scrapers in Rhode Island.

REMINDER!  Next month we will also be accepting nominations for the 2006 officers and board members.

After the business meeting members viewed a DVD on the Hubble Space Telescope which was provided by NASA.  John also brought in a tape from the McDonald Observatory in Texas.
