OLD BUSINESS

1)    Report International Observe the Moon Night Saturday September 18 Sharon, MA. Jeff presented thank you pictures to Paul G for support and to Skip, Bill and George for participation. Next yearÕs ÒNight of the MoonÓ, Jeff plans real-time shared-observations with an astronomy associate in Alaska and arrange for a radio/video link.

2)    Paul established an SSAS site on Flickr and posted pictures from the ÒMoon NightÓ

3)    Viewing program for Air Force at 4th Cliff (Scituate/Humarock) Saturday October 9 (location shown on SSAS web site) – set up is approx 6-6.5 pm. Louis will send members specific details on Thursday or Friday

4)    Board Meeting on Saturday Sep 11. The club had to move stuff out of ÒourÓ locker.

5)    Astronomy Day for 2011 is May 14 (the Saturday after the ÔofficialÕ Astron Day and we plan to return to the Scituate Public Library)

 

NEW BUSINESS

1)    Suggested Viewing Nights Saturdays Oct 9 and Nov 6 at Centennial Park (Norwell)

2)    Nominations due 2011 Officers at November meeting

3)    Rolf is starting radiation treatment for prostrate cancer – he sends his regards and we wish him well.

4)    The regular Saturday viewing night are still a go – members also suggest that if some evening is clear, member sends out email to all members and declare a viewing evening. We declare the Saturday viewing evenings are for club members to ÒbondÓ. Skip suggested a Leonid meteor shower observing at Miles Standish.

5)    Jeff shared a letter that he received from the FAA that approves his use of a green laser when pointing out stars at night. There are issues about green lasers and airplanes. Two hours before any viewing, Jeff has to notify air traffic control at local airports and local police in the areas that he is licensed.

6)    Bruce recommends the new book by Stephen Hawking (& a co-author)
