This abbreviated newsletter is presented by the ssastros Webmaster.

 

1.   President Tenney Doble called the meeting to order at 7:30 pm

 

2.   A review of recent “Mars Watch” observing was the first order of business.

 

3.   Chuck read a letter thanking the Society for its presentation to at the Plymouth Public Library.

 

4.   Chuck also reminded all that dues would soon be coming due for the year 2004.  There is an increase in the price of Sky and Telescope to $33.00 for 2004.

 

5.   Paul reported on the STEP foundation and the current financial problems in the Town of Plymouth.  The Town is currently in a 5.2 million dollar deficit and many programs through out the town are in danger of being closed including the Blake Planetarium at P.C.I.S.

 

6.   Steve LaFlamme talked about the digital system he uses on his scope.  He showed several pictures he took using this equipment.  Steve and Alden will set up a demonstration of this system at one of our future meetings.  Steve also talked about how he and his friends made the discovery of a moving star.

 

7.   Bruce talked about the fact that Al Nagler will be at Boston Telescope on October 25th.

 

8.   The Astronomical Society of Southern New England will sponsor Rehoboth Skies on October 4th with special guest speaker John Dobson.  http://www.assne.org/

 

9.   Nominations for officers will take place during the November meeting with elections held at the December meeting.  If you are interested in running for an office please let Tenney know at the November meeting.

 

10.                     Mal noted the European Space Organization sponsors a project called “Catch a Star”.  He suggested that we consider a similar project in place of the Astronomy Day Essay for next year.
