OLD BUSINESS

1)     Report on Children’s Program Winslow House Friday Aug. 6 Bill Luzader made 4x20 minute presentation in the planetarium to groups of about a dozen children  & adults, Mal & Greg MacDonlad demonstrated the club’s 10-inch Dobsonian in the yard (cloudy) and Richard Zeeg and his grandson showed up for moral support

2)     Report on Stellafane Aug. 5 – 8 Don Greeley (wearing the Stellafane 75th anniversary T-shirt) had a superb Thu-Sun of clear skies, interesting course – his granddaughter had fun grinding mirrors and played with a LEGO telescope

3)     Observatory Meeting Report Aug 7 - Paul Grueter, Bill Luzader, Steve Zulon, Carl Fletcher, Mike Petrasko met at the Joslin Center site in south Plymouth to discuss the construction of the observatory project

4)     Magical Moon Foundation of Marshfield Aug 21 – Mal MacDonlad (and his wife), Bill Luzader, Jeff Lane, Louis Gentile, Bruce Lewis, Joe Becker, Tom Mayer, Don Greeley (and his wife). Weather did not cooperate, some of the parents & children visited with us; Donna Green would like to schedule another evening viewing session sometime in the Autumn (Louis Gentile is the contact)

 

NEW BUSINESS

1)     Suggested Viewing Nights Saturdays Sept 4 and 11 at Centennial Park (Norwell)

2)     Board Meeting Saturday Sep 11 time to be determined at the Council on Aging

3)     8” Meade CT with tripod Donated telescope from Ned Platner of Scituate – brought by Lewis Gentile, Louis will arrange a letter of thanks and Paul Grueter mentioned an honorary membership fro Mr. Platner)

4)     Russel Jackson contacted the club about a viewing program for active Air Force personnel on Sat Oct. 9 at Fourth Cliff at Humarock (Marshfield) – Lewis Gentile

5)     International “Observe the Moon Night” Sep 18 & Jeff Lane will viewing at his house in Sharon and Sue D’Arcangelo (Scituate Public Library) will advertise this night of observing at libraries through a collaboration of NASA-LRO

6)     Treasury balance $1268.35 – Charles McCarthy

 

OPEN TOPICS

1) Paul Grueter has received a list of astronomy professors tat could be source for speakers for next astronomy day

2) Mal MacDonald is looking for someone who knows something about a Celestron 4.5” refractor with a Polaris mount

3) Tom Meyers has a friend who wants to get rid of a 6” mirror that Louis Gentile suggests that it be donated to the club
