1.   Vice President Louis Gentile opened the meeting.  The first topic was a discussion of recent viewing sessions of Mars.

 

2.   Bill Luzader next talked about the recent viewings of Mars sponsored by the STEP Foundation.  The STEP Foundation has been formed to promote Science and Technology in the Plymouth Public Schools.  The main priority of the foundation is to keep the Blake Planetarium open during the current budget problems in Plymouth.  Long-range goals of the foundation include making the Planetarium self-sustaining and building an observatory on the grounds of Plymouth South Middle School.

 

3.   Steve LeFlamme spoke of the method he used to view the moons of Mars.

 

4.   Louis reminded members of the Astronomical Society of Northern New England’s upcoming star party, “Starfest”, Sept 19th and 20th.  Check out their web site at http://www.asnne.org/ for details.

 

5.   Bill talked about upcoming events at Skyscrapers in Rhode Island.

 

6.   Rehoboth Skies will be held by the Astronomical Society of Southern New England October 4th.  Their site is http://users.rcn.com/assne/.

 

7.   Mal MacDonald suggested that in addition to Saturday night viewing soon members might prefer Friday nights.  The upcoming events section of the web site now reflects that desire.

 

8.   The meeting ended with Andy Wilbur demonstrating his conversion of his Orion telescope into a “go to” telescope using components from Meade and other suppliers.
