SSAS BOARD OF
DIRECTORS MEETING
April 2, 2005
The board met at the Norwell Council of Aging. All officers were in attendance.
1. Astronomy
Appreciation Day will take place on Saturday, March 14th. This event will take place at the Plymouth Community Intermediate
School and the Blake
Planetarium. Bill will have programs in
the planetarium and scopes will be set up in the grassy area near the
entrance. Rolf will bring his meteorite
display, if any members have solar filters or H-Alpha filters they are asked to
set up early. The event will take place
between 5 and 9 PM. If weather is bad we
will set up telescopes in the hallways so people can still see the different
types of telescopes. Rolf, Bill and Andy
will handle the publicity for the event.
2. Prior
to Astronomy Appreciation Day, there will be an S.T.E.P. observatory planning
meeting at the Blake Planetarium. This meeting
will take place at 3:00 PM.
3. Andy
talked about Norwell
Middle School as an
official alternative viewing site. He
has used this site several times and finds it as good as Centennial Field with
the advantage of being able to set up right next to you car. In addition, this site is plowed in the
winter. Andy has contacted to Norwell
School Department to fill out a use of facility form. He has also made contact with the Norwell
police to get their approval.
4. The
annual picnic will be held at Louis’ house in Scituate this year. The date for the picnic will by July 30. Information will be mailed as well as on the member’s
only page.
5. Topics
for upcoming meetings: April Columating a telescope, May we will visit the
planetarium at Weymouth
High School, and June,
Constellations, North Star and the Greek Alphabet.
6. We
have been asked to participate in public observing nights. The first will be April 17th at
the Borderland State
Park in Easton
and second a future observing night at the “New Beginnings Program” in Norwell.
7. June
11th is the tentative date to visit the ATMoB site in Westford. Bruce is working on this an more info should
be available at the next meeting
