Board Meeting

3 pm at the Norwell Council on Aging

 

Present: Paul Grueter, Louis Gentile, Chuck McCarthy, Bill Luzader, Mal MacDonald, John Flores

 

1.  Finances – Chuck McCarthy: as of 2/13/10 balance $1754.35

Starting next year, members will renew through Sky and Telescope magazine not through the club.

 

2.  Membership – Chuck McCarthy: 24 members (22 paid & 2 lifetime)

 

3.  Astronomy Day April 24, 2010 noon – 4 pm – Louis Gentile and Bill Luzader met with Susan D’Arcangelo at the Scituate Public Library on Feb 9. Mal MacDonald with coloring constellations, Rolf Egon with meteorites (?), and Bruce on the piano in Children Section. Planetarium and talks downstairs. Joey Metter will portray a wandering explaining Galileo. Some speakers are set – more details later.

 

4.  Upcoming Programs

      a.   Hanover Public Library, Feb. 20, 2010

      Rolf Egon 12-2 pm Solar Observing to supplement a display of Sun photos

      b.   Hingham Cub Scouts – sometime in the Spring

      c.   Scituate Rotary – Wednesday March 10, 2010 at 6:30 pm at the Scituate Country Club with telescopes (if clear) after dinner and is windy. Bill Luzader will do an inside presentation.

      d.   Quincy Beach – sometime in spring or summer

      e.   Abington Public Library – early summer program

      f.    Randolph Public Schools – sometime in May, more later

      g.   At the Winslow House – possible program with children in the late morning Friday August 6

 

5.    Other Topics

      a.  The PCIS observatory – Paul Grueter will email Alison Riordan and Bill Luzader will email Mike Petrasko

      b. Paul Grueter and Bill Luzader will check out the prices of new and used video projector for the club to use when we make presentations at locations without video screens or projectors

      c.  Monthly Speakers – astrophysicist daughter of Susan D’Arcangelo (Scituate Public Library) for March (?), Jeff Baumgardner of BU in April, Tim Barker of Wheaton College in June
