SOUTH SHORE ASTRONOMICAL SOCIETY

Community Outreach

Over the years the South Shore Astronomical Society has sponsored viewing sessions and/or presentations with many different organizations across the South Shore.

The South Shore Astronomical Society is available to host stargazing events for local groups and organizations by providing astronomers with telescopes for viewing the night sky. Our members volunteer their time and equipment, and depending on what is in the sky on any given night, targets may include the Moon, the planets, the stars and other objects within our galaxy, and even distant galaxies.

Solar outreach is also possible, with the club providing astronomers with specially filtered telescopes for safe viewing of the Sun.

The South Shore Astronomical Society has worked over the years with schools, senior centers, scouting groups, public libraries, work groups, and even private parties. Events can be scheduled at any time of year, weather permitting. Please note that start times for summer events can be quite late due to the late-setting Sun and daylight savings time. Event planning assistance can be provided by the club.

It has been our experience that showing people things like the Moon, a planet such as Saturn, colorful stars or distant galaxies through quality telescopes can make life-long memories for people of all ages.
